New electric trains for Žilina region

Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK, Slovak railways) signed a contract with ŠKODA TRANSPORTATION and ŽOS Trnava for delivery of 25 electric trains at the price of EUR 160 million. The project will be co-funded by the European Union funds, specifically through the Operational Program “Integrated Infrastructure”. Other financial contributors are the Cohesion Fund, state and ZSSK with own resources.

New electric units will be deployed in regional transport on electrified routes in two versions: shorter with a length of 80 meters with a capacity of 247 seated passengers and longer, 106 meters, with a capacity of 343 seated passengers. Passengers will appreciate comfortable seats, electric sockets, air conditioning, LED interior lighting and modern toilets. Trains also offer an information and communication system, camera monitoring and wi-fi internet access. In each train there will be at least one compartment for immobile passengers as well as a space for the transport of children's strollers and bicycles. ZSSK plans to deploy new electric units to regional transport in the Žilina region.
