With the contribution of the LIFE programme of the European Union - LIFE14 ENV/GR/000611 and the co-financing of Green Fund, Greece
GreenYourMove platform has been upgraded – Meet us at the 84th Thessaloniki International Fair
The European Program LIFE GreenYourMove aims to develop a journey application that will encourage people to use public transportation for their commute, and at the same time to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. This journey application provides users with the best routes of public transportation in a useful and fast way and aims to reduce the production of greenhouse gas emissions and minimize the passenger commute time. To identify the best route, the app is using a combination of heuristic and analytical approaches, and during its development, a new gas emission calculation model was developed.
In 2016 the first pilot version of the journey planner was introduced, while the platform database was also completed. Recently, the journey planner was upgraded in its web application, Android app (version 1.4) and iOS app (version 1.2) and is available in several Greek cities, such as Athens, Thessaloniki, Volos, Larissa, Lamia, Patra, Katerini, Serres, Alexandroupolis, Komotini, Trikala, as well as all over Europe, as it covers transport networks in the Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Luxembourg, Slovenia, Sweden, the Netherlands and Switzerland. With the new upgrades GreenYourMove platform becomes faster and the navigation becomes even better. An innovative element added is the automated optimum walking option from the start of the route to the nearest station. For this reason, a walking path optimization model was developed aiming to reduce walking time and travel time.
The journey planner will be available to the public at this year's TIF, and in particular at the University of Thessaly and TRAINOSE’s exhibition booths. Project representatives will present the journey planner and will distribute relevant information material. At the same time, members of the project team will be at bus and train stops in the area of Thessaloniki, Greece to inform passengers about the project and the benefits of using public transport means.
LIFE GreenYourMove (GYM) is co-funded by the European Commission as part of the axis for the environment - LIFE14 ENV/GR/000611, the Green Fund, and the General Secretariat for Research and Technology. It is a cooperation of a total of 6 partners from Greece (University of Thessaly, AVMaps GIS S.A., TRAINOSE S.A., and EMISIA S.A), the Czech Republic (CHAPSspol. s.r.o.), and Slovakia (INROP), coordinated by the University of Thessaly.
