The journey application of GreenYourMove was presented in the biggest cities in Greece

The European Program LIFE GreenYourMove aims to develop a journey application that will encourage people to use public transportation for their commute, and at the same time to minimize greenhouse gas emissions. This journey application, which will provide users with the best routes of public transportation in a useful and fast way, includes a network of 3 European countries (Greece, Czech Republic, and Slovakia) and aims to reduce the production of greenhouse gas emissions and minimize the passenger commute time. In 2016, an experimental version of the journey application was presented to public transport agencies, and the platform itinerary database was completed in June of the same year. To identify the best route, the app is using a combination of heuristic and analytical approaches, and during its development, a new gas emission calculation model was developed.

Since September 2018, the journey application has been presented in every major city in the Continental Greece. Particularly, the journey application was presented during the 83rd TIF (08/09/18 to 16/09/18) in Thessaloniki with double presence: one in the exhibition stand of Thessalian and the other one in TRAINOSE’s exhibition stand. In both visibility points, the visitors had the chance to be informed about the app, download it for free on their cell phone (IOS & Android), and use it for their next commute. The seminar Urban and Interurban Transportation – with Mr. Sakellariou, President of Urban Larissa and Mr. Kolyndrinis President of the Magnesia Interurban Bus Service as its main speakers – also took place during the exhibition.

When the 83rd TIF ended, during the European Mobility Week (16/09/18-22/09/18), promotional actions were implemented by GreenYourMove's scientific team in cooperation with 22 public transport providers of 11 cities in Greece. The journey application was presented to presidents, shareholders and partners of urban and intercity buses, representatives of municipalities and regions, and the media, while groups of people presented the application to passengers at the central stations in each city. The promotional activities included real-time information events, promotional stickers that were placed on the back / side of the buses, and the passengers who downloaded the app on their cell phones were given free tickets. Promotional posters of the journey application were placed in bus stations and stops, as well as at OSE’s stations.

The activities started in Patras on September 14, continued in Alexandroupoli and Komotini on September 17. Then, the scientific team headed south, and in particular, on September 18, the actions were implemented in Larissa and Trikala. On September 19, promotional actions took place in Volos and Katerini and on September 20 the scientific team visited Lamia and Chalkida. Finally, on September 21, the actions were implemented in Serres and Florina.

LIFE GreenYourMove (GYM) is co-funded by the European Commission as part of the axis for the environment - LIFE14 ENV/GR/000611, the Green Fund, and the General Secretariat for Research and Technology. It is a cooperation of a total of 6 partners from Greece (University of Thessaly, AVMaps GIS S.A., TRAINOSE S.A., and EMISIA S.A), the Czech Republic (CHAPSspol. s.r.o.), and Slovakia (INROP), coordinated by the University of Thessaly.
