Deutsche Bahn reveals new ICE4 train fleet

One of the most famous high speed trains worldwide are the Deutsche Bahn’s ICE trains. Rudiger Grube DB CEO presented last generation of ICE trains on September 14 at Berlin central station. DB ordered 130 ICE4 trains from Siemens with Bombardier having 30% share of the project. ICE4 designed to run up to 250km/h and they are 100 tonnes lighter than first ICE generation ICE1. Optimization on aerodynamics and roofline transitions offer 22% lower energy consumption than ICE1.

ICE4 consists of 12 wagons and it is 346m long. Seats are designed for long travel and there will be free wi-fi for getting to the internet. Furthermore adjustable LED lighting is installed in the wagons and improved air-conditioning. For first time in ICE history passengers can carry bicycles inside the train.

DB plans to expand range of long-distance rail services by 25% by 2030. ICE4 will set in regular service on December 2017 and will replace IC and Eurocity fleets. ICE4 comes to follow a 25 years history of high speed trains in German Railway.
